Health Division

The Health Division:

  • provides professional guidance, direction and sound advice to the Commissioner concerning technical managed care issues;

  • determines whether policy forms marketed in the District are in compliance with New Born - Well Childcare Act, Drug Abuse, Alcohol Abuse and Mental Illness Insurance Act, as well as the Cancer Prevention Act;

  • reviews the financial condition of health maintenance organizations to determine compliance with net worth requirements;

  • coordinates with the Financial Examination and Market Conduct Divisions to administer financial and market conduct examinations of HMOs within statutory time frames;

  • receives and processes all health related consumer complaints and inquiries; and

  • responds to requests from consumers for assistance in resolving disputes regarding payment of claims, premium charges, unfair trade practices cancellations and non-renewals on health related policies.
